A rule 63 thread on /co/ just gave me my next sewing project, once I finish my current dress, which nearly there, just hand sewing CRAP left. I think I have to hand sew the hem for real like I resented doing last semester though :(
ANYWAY!
I want to buy red/white/blue t-shirts and multilate them into THIS. It would be amazing, and I can think of way to do it that shouldn't be that hard, except for the whole sewing-knits-is-awful part.
Here's my plan (Vanessa, hopefully you'll get to look at this and can understand it and let me know if I'm on the right track)
buy 3 colored t-shirts.
Take the blue one, cut it off under the boobs (with seam allowance). Possible take it in on the sides, if it's not too difficult, to make a nice fitted under-boob. desirable, but not necessary (also potentially annoying)
Measure the circular width of the bottom of the blue shirt. Sew together even strips of red and white to make a tube
sew tube to bottom of blue shirt
Make star applique as outlined in our lame sewing book.
YES?!/1?!
Potential problems: measuring tube wrong, bulky lumps where red/white seams meet the blue.
I want to do it RIGHT NOW.
Need to finish current dress though. It's pretty awesome, though slightly messed up. But the best thing I've ever sewn to date! Pictures pending.
EDIT: Tshirt question for people with sewing ability: What if I made the red/white tube slightly smaller than the top part? Would that help for boob emphasis or would it just result in the top being lumpy and weird? I think it would probably cause problems especially in the back, now that I think of it?
